Sunna Design was founded in 2011 and is located in Bordeaux, France. Joining forces to create a solar lighting group, we’ve pioneered solar street lighting and energy management for connected autonomous applications. Sol was started +30 years ago in Miami Florida to help light streets and roadways in the Sunshine state.
2010
Sunna Design was founded, and launched the first all-in-one solar street light as an outdoor lighting solution for rural Africa.
2014
Carmanah Illumination merges with Sol Inc.
2016
Sunna Design’s Factory of the Future project was awarded the label for its innovative, agile and low energy consumption. The factory also stands out for its unique concept that places the operator at the center of industrialization, thanks to digital technology. Thanks to this new industrial tool, Sunna Design has been able to triple its production capacity to 100,000 products per year.

2019
Sunna Design starts in the North American market, and launches the first Solar Lighting as a Service program in America with multiple partners. Through partnerships with investment companies, this offer allows solar street lighting projects to be implemented as a turnkey service, payable monthly and fully financed.
2020
Sunna Design acquired the North America’s leading solar lighting company, Sol. Sunna Design strengthens its leadership position and continues to accelerate its growth in the marketplace with this purchase. The acquisition provides the most comprehensive and competitive portfolio of products and services in the global market for smart, connected, stand-alone solar solutions.
2021
Sunna Design has announced the signing of a €40 million contract with the Togolese government for the supply and installation for 24 months and the maintenance of 50,000 solar streetlights over 12 years. Financed by the French Ministry of Finance, the contract is part of the CIZO project, which aims to provide electricity to 500,000 rural households, or 1.5 million people, in 12,000 villages.
2023
Sol continues its expansion and opens a regional office in Atlanta to support its customers on the east coast better. In the lighting industry epicenter to facilitate manufacturing needs and clients along the sunbelt.
